London & Continental Railways has chosen Wates as main contractor for a £150m design and build new office building at Axis Square in Birmingham.

The 1m sq ft office scheme will include four major office blocks on a city centre site located opposite the Mailbox building in the city.

Wates Construction has been awarded a pre-construction services contract for Phase 1 of the development, which will consist of the design and construction of Building 1, . on the site, a 200,000 sq ft block rising to 13 storeys.Under the terms of the deal, Wates will develop a 210,000 sq ft office project on Holliday Street rising to nine stories. The contract will also include delivering both the design and construction of Building 4 on the site, a 200,000 sq ft block rising to 13 storeys.

Later phases will see further buildings with commercial, leisure and retail space and a new public square, designed to transform the area and connect the quarter with surrounding developments.
