Following last year's successful digital conference, the nationally acclaimed Made Smarter programme is coming to the Black Country to host an event packed with industry experts, manufacturers, OEMs, buyers, technology specialists and exhibitors.

The renowned Supply Chain Digital Transformation event is arriving in Wolverhampton to showcase how the exploding world of digital technology is changing AME supply chains with headline speaker Brian Holliday, Managing Director of Siemens (pictured left).

Technology Adoption Specialist at Made Smarter UK

Will is the automation and robotics specialist for the Made Smarter Adoption Programme in the North West, where he advises and supports manufacturing companies with the adoption of new technologies. Will is a chartered manufacturing engineer with the IMechE, and his background is in the aerospace industry where he developed and implemented new manufacturing techniques including automation, robotics, advanced machining, inspection, and welding. He is the author of Digital Transformation in Your Manufacturing Business - A Made Smarter Guide which is due out in June 2024.

Dr. Mark Swift - Speaker

Director of SME Engagement at WMG, University of Warwick

Mark leads WMG’s SME Group and its initiatives focused on helping small businesses grow through research led innovation, technology adoption, leadership and developing new skills. The aim of the Group is to enable SME’s and Mid-Caps manufacture more in the UK through helping companies to improve their products, process and technologies by accelerating and de-risking the uptake of innovation. The Group is recognised as a national leader in how universities support innovation in SMEs. Previously as Chief Technology Officer of the WMG centre High Value Manufacturing Catapult, Mark was primarily responsible for delivering the WMG technology strategy and the advancement of technology across the WMG’s Catapult. This helped to secure £99m of government funding. In over 10 years at Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) this has included designing and operating an online engineering eMarketplace with over 12,000 members, constructing a purpose built multi-disciplined 5,000m2 digital laboratory and leading the International Institute for Product and Service Innovation. His work has culminated in starting over 10 new hi-tech start-up businesses, working with hundreds of small businesses and creating, or safeguarding, over a 1,000 industry jobs. Mark has a background in manufacturing systems, previously working for International Paper, Hasbro and BMW UK.

Senior Project Manager at Coventry Very Light Rail

Angus has extensive experience in business improvement and innovation programme delivery, Angus is also a small business owner that has developed innovation ideas from concept through to market products. Coventry City Council has a determination to develop a low cost, high quality integrated public transport infrastructure that will help address the issues of congestion, air quality, connectivity, modal shift from the private car. This innovation will also generate employment opportunities, and produce a market leading product in the light rail industry.

CEO at Black Country Innovative Manufacturing Organisation (BCIMO)

Neil began his career as an apprentice with Cummins Engines in Darlington graduating with a Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, followed by engine development and then regional customer engagement roles. In 2000 he joined Millbrook Proving Ground, leading their automotive powertrain engineering activities. In 2013, Neil joined the Transport Systems Catapult delivering connected and autonomous vehicle programmes and eventually became Chief Operating Officer with responsibility for all project delivery. He is now the Chief Executive Officer at BCIMO – establishing this unique, national rail research asset, growing a credible customer base and supporting innovation and economic growth across the Black Country and beyond.

Region Director - Midlands at Make UK

Make UK is the largest voice supporting UK manufacturing employers. Chris’s role as Region Director for the Midlands & East of England is to engage Make UK’s members and to assist them in advancing their business. By providing bespoke introductions, industry insight, a programme of events & networking opportunities, promoting their business and ensuring their views are heard with government at both a local and national level. Another key part of his role is to engage with stakeholders representing industry’s views. Sarah's role is supporting the MIRA Technology Park team to embed an 850-acre Midlands campus as the global location of choice for mobility R&D. Mira works with Coventry University and other partners on developing autonomous technology for the city and the highway, as well as becoming the location of choice for hydrogen technology development and commercialisation.

Paul Edwards is Head of Economic Development and Delivery at the West Midlands Combined Authority. As part of his role, he is responsible for the publicly funded business support ecosystem in the West Midlands – Business Growth West Midlands – along with mobilisation and support for the region’s medium term high growth strategy, Plan for Growth. He is also the responsible officer for the Business Energy Advice Service pilot, delivered in conjunction with the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, aimed at helping West Midlands businesses reduce their energy usage and boosting their productivity. Paul has a 15 year career in regional economic development working across policy, practice and delivery for universities, local enterprise partnerships and central government departments.
