The next wave of business opportunities to supply the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games was previewed to finditinbirmingham members this week.
Attendees at the latest finditinbirmingham breakfast meeting on Thursday 3 November heard directly from London 2012 procurement expert Jim Johnston.
They also took part in exclusive one-to-one meetings with Jim and with Steve Hollingsworth, Birmingham City Council’s Assistant Director of Sports & Events.
Many of the forthcoming opportunities are being created by the change of use of the Games’ sites, including the conversion and adaptation of the venues and the construction of new buildings on the sites.
Jim Johnston explained a number of the chances for Birmingham companies to win more work, including:
* The Olympic Park will be ‘deconstructed’ to become Queen Elizabeth Park
* The Aquatics Centre will have two temporary wings removed and made into another public building
* The biggest building on the Olympic Park – the media centre, built by Carillion – is expected to become hi-tech office space
* The Basketball Arena will be removed from its Olympic & Paralympic Games site and rebuilt at another location
* Approximately 11,000 new houses are scheduled to be built on the park area, plus medical centres and community facilities
* The Olympic Village will become 2,800 apartments – and, as an example of the range of opportunities available, each one will need a new kitchen.
All of the opportunities will be available to bid for via the CompeteFor website and keep an eye on finditinbirmingham for relevant updates.

"Anyone who thinks it’s too late to win London 2012 contracts, or work generated by the Games, should think again,” said Stuart Horton, Project Manager of finditinbirmingham. "The next wave of opportunities could be very lucrative for local businesses. Three hundred companies from the West Midlands have already won contracts. I’m delighted that finditinbirmingham could offer such valuable information to the city’s businesses.”
Harsha Dahyea, Business Development Manager at State Bank of India gave an overview of India's largest commercial banking group. Harsha spoke about India's growth economy and informed delegates about how the State Bank of India can assist them with a vast amount of business focused products.
