Mary Ashman and Dalvinder Cheema, the owners of ‘Kiss Me Cupcakes’, have been chosen as two of the 'faces' of the new Library of Birmingham.
As part of the 'Rewriting the book' promotional campaign for the new library, pictures of local people are being used to decorate the scaffolding around the building site in Centenary square. The new library will open in 2013.
Mary and Dalvinder opened 'Kiss Me Cupcakes', a shop, cookery lesson provider and catering service in West Bromwich, after falling in love with a cupcake shop while travelling in Australia.
Mary and Dalvinder launched the business in 2007 to limited success. They then discovered the Business Insight section at Central Library.
Dalvinder said: “We didn’t know anything about cashflows or anything like that. We wouldn’t have classed ourselves as businesswomen then. So Business Insight was a great help.”
The Guardian newspaper recently chose Kiss me Cupcakes as one of the top ten cupcake makers in the UK.
The girls hope to set up a city centre cafe bakery soon.
