A Birmingham IT provider is celebrating a special anniversary this month that makes it as old as the PC industry itself.
Finditinbirmingham premium member Computerworld Business Solutions (CBS) has achieved the major milestone of being in business for 30 years.
Originally trading as AT Computerworld and born from a joint venture between the Birmingham based Apricot Computers and the American Tandy Corporation, before changing its name to Apricot Computerworld in the mid 80’s, CBS saw rapid growth during the Apricot PC years with the company become one of largest Apricot resellers in the country.
Chairman, Danny Haines joined the company as Sales Manager in 1983 from the Tandy Corporation, having previously managed its Smallbrook Queensway office (which remains the company’s headquarters today). Joined in 1989 by the now Managing Director Julian Shaw, the two worked together closely to grow the business and in 1997 they completed a management buyout.
In 1999, with the demise of Apricot Computers, the directors reshaped the business, increasing the focus on quality outsourced services and consultancy. The company was rebranded as Computerworld Business Solutions with a focus on consultancy and support services.
Today, the CBS team is 25-strong and a Microsoft Gold partner, providing services to Midlands-based organisations. Its portfolio includes network implementation, on-going support services, disaster recovery, cloud and telephony technologies.
