Birmingham Energy Savers
What’s it all about?
Birmingham Energy Savers (formerly named the 'Green New Deal') aims to deliver permanently lower energy bills and better housing to local people - creating skilled jobs in the process.
There is an urgent need for large scale refurbishment in British housing to meet carbon reduction targets. The skills and technologies to deliver this already exist, in established construction, contracting, and manufacturing firms. But these skills need to be deployed in new ways to deliver efficient outcomes for property owners (for example, taking a whole house approach to projects, rather than a single technology approach).
Often these technologies and approaches are well-developed elsewhere in the world, but local installation and manufacturing firms should be competitive - provided there is a strong enough local market and a strategic vision in the local authority. Birmingham Energy Savers will create this long-term, accessible, local market in Birmingham.
