Employment Access Team (EAT)
Birmingham City Council’s Employment Access Team is a free recruitment service for employers. The EAT team is part of BCC and provides employers with a free, thorough, comprehensive support package to recruit and retain staff and develop a skilled, flexible workforce.

Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service
The ACAS works to resolve employer/employee conflicts. It offers advice to employers on the legislation around making redundancies and alternatives to redundancy. ACAS aims to improve organisation and customer services for working life through better employer relations. It offers advice to employers and employees on a variety of employment relations subjects.

The National Apprenticeship Service
The National Apprenticeship Service encourages businesses to employ apprentices – advising employers and learners on the types of apprenticeships, training and funding available. The NAS has been designed to increase the number of apprenticeship opps and provide a dedicated, responsive service for both employers and learners.

Disability Employment Solutions (DES)
Birmingham City Council’s DES programme who have mental health problems, learning difficulties or physical disabilities into employment and training. It offers employers a range of support services, and provides continuing support to workers.

Future Jobs Fund
The government has invested £17.8million into helping 18-24 year-olds into work or training in Birmingham’s unemployment hotspots. The programme will create 5,800 jobs, with help from employers, by September 2011.

Next step is a publicity funded service helping adults get the advice they need for future skills, careers, work and life choices. Face to face, tel or online.
Jobseekers can be referred by Jobcentre Plus to ‘Nextstep’, the government’s national careers counselling service. Their advisors can help people looking to change careers or in need of direction.
