The Greater Birmingham & Solihull Local Enterprise (GBSLEP) project Destination Work is an exciting opportunity to deliver an enhanced and significantly different employment support offer to many of the most disadvantaged young people in Birmingham and Solihull. The project is funded through Central Government Cabinet Office Tackling Youth Unemployment in Cities initiative, utilising Youth Contract underspend.
Working with young unemployed people (aged 18-24) in the catchment areas of Washwood Heath, Perry Barr and Chelmsley Wood Jobcentres, Destination Work will enhance mainstream employment support provision through a two week intensive motivational activity and a sustained personalised coaching and mentoring service at pre and post-employment stages. Destination Work will test a model of employment support that aims to reduce long term and recurring youth unemployment in the areas of highest youth unemployment in Birmingham and Solihull through an intensive and flexible support offer.
Evaluation of the project will be used to inform future GBSLEP provision; evaluation work undertaken by the University of Birmingham will be woven into the delivery of the project.
Acting on behalf of GBSLEP, Birmingham City Council and our partners Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council and the Department of Work and Pensions are seeking interest from potential providers to deliver this important project.
